Discover the Local Area

The beach, forests, farmland, a vineyard, and ancient towns, are the peaceful surroundings of Westenschouwen, perfect for anyone seeking to escape the hustle and bustle. Tucked away at the westernmost tip of Schouwen-Duiveland, just beyond the villages of Burgh and Haamstede, our Tiny Estate lies in one of the most beautiful corners of Zeeland.

The sea and forest are just 550 metres away, along with several local restaurants, some right on the beach, others just around the corner. More dining options, shops, and seasonal markets are just a short drive away. In nearby Dreischor, you’ll even find a superb vineyard offering wine tastings that rival some of Europe’s better-known whites.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there’s golf, windsurfing, kayaking, diving, horse riding, forest walks, MTB trails, and more. The 346-hectare Boswachterij Westerschouwen—a stunning nature reserve of dunes and woodland bordering the sea—is ideal for light exercise or simply soaking up the natural beauty. And of course, the wide Blue Flag sandy beach might be the main reason to come at all.

The Region

Zeeland is a captivating treasure trove of history and natural beauty. Set in the heart of the Dutch Delta, this region is rich in heritage, with iconic landmarks and timeless landscapes that have drawn visitors to the area for centuries.

Slot Haamstede

Slot Haamstede is a well-preserved 13th-century castle, surrounded by a moat and set amidst woodlands, an eighteenth-century deciduous forest, and the protected ‘Zeepeduinen’ sand dunes. Over the centuries, it changed hands many times and, although damaged in the 16th century, it was never abandoned. Carefully restored in the 20th century, the castle is now owned by Natuurmonumenten. It opens to visitors during special tours and events and remains one of the region’s most picturesque landmarks.

De Pannekoekenmolen

One of our favourite lunch spots for over 40 years! This charming restaurant serves up some of the best pancakes you’ll find anywhere—sweet, savoury, or classic Dutch. Great for families too, with a spacious playground next to the terrace.

🍽️ Tip: try the one with cheese, bacon and syrup, our favourite and surprisingly delicious.

Het Vissershuis

Just a short walk from the house, this local favourite serves fresh, expertly prepared seafood in a relaxed setting. Expect friendly service, seasonal ingredients, and a short but well-chosen wine list — the dry, mineral Grüner Veltliner pairs beautifully with the fish. Popular with locals (including us!), it's a great sign when a place is always buzzing but never rushed.
